Landscapes are complex. They are an intricate system of relationships between the human and non-human worlds. Addressing this complexity requires shifting our paradigm away from conventional methods of convenience and control. KALEIOPE Environmental Design is predicated on respect for the land's innate intelligence and the belief that thoughtful design is an affordable right.
Changing perspective can feel overwhelming, but if done thoughtfully, we can find a balance between comfortable outdoor living, natural beauty, and ecological wellness.
My approach is to help you understand how your goals fit in with the natural constraints of your parcel and to help you work through the implications of certain decisions. I use a combination of geographic information modeling and 3D site modeling to examine your priorities at the regional and site scale, and implement strategies derived from permaculture, restoration ecology, and bioregional planning to generate thoughtful solutions to existing and potential issues. Together, we will look at micro-climate, soil health, plant variety, and wildlife patterns in an effort to organize your space to accommodate a range of needs.
Property ownership presents opportunities for promoting biodiversity and mitigating climate change. Your home can have an impact on your community far beyond your property line, from the amount of water that it captures to nourishment for threatened species passing through. Residential Design
Every one is different and every site has different needs. It is our goal to offer services to clients across a range of income levels. Please feel free to set up a free 20-minute consultation if you are unsure which service best fits your current needs.
Site Consultation
A brief visit to your site to identify potential issues and discuss long-term vision for your landscape. Afterward we will provide a site report outlining strategies and possibilities to address your needs.
Full-Service Landscape Design
We manage and work through each phase of the design process from analysis to installation. We will determine the baseline conditions of your site, then approach the project based on the context of your neighborhood and bioregion.
Do-It-Yourself Plans
A conceptual layout based on the requirements and goals of your site. These can be roughly dimensioned plans that you can give to a contractor or detailed planting plans that you can install yourself.
Plant Design
Arrangement and installation of a plant community suited to your site’s cultural conditions. Plants are selected for seasonal interest, ease of care, and ecosystem services.

Professional Drafting
We provide professional drafting, modeling, and analysis services to commercial design firms working toward a deadline. Be advised that we work primarily in Vectorworks and QGIS when contacting us for service.
